Named as a runner-up in the recently-concluded The Voice Kids Philippines, Darren Espanto’s solid supporters and fans rapidly grew because of his exceptional talent in singing and dancing. His fans all over the country can attest that Darren, who trends on Twitter every day, also has an excellent personality which was first noticed by his coach, Sarah Geronimo, in the competition. Without a doubt, the pop royalty was not mistaken.
Shortly after the competition, Darren was offered a myriad of opportunities including TV guestings, concerts, and mall shows. This made the 13-year old and his family decide to have him stay in the Philippines to forward his career in the country. One of his pioneer projects is an album. The Voice Kids: The Album is produced by MCA Universal. Invitations to perform in shows are also plenty. Darren travels a lot in the different provinces in the Philippines to see his loyal fans.
Let’s revisit his tours all over the archipelago.
Before anything else, Darren gave back to his hometown. He had his first provincial tour in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, on July 28, 2014. A motorcade was organized by the city government who has been supporting Darren closely from the beginning of the contest. He visited main roads and schools such as the Muñoz National High School and the Central Luzon State University. Darren waved to the many proud Novo Ecijanos who came to watch him.
Going up North, he also went to San Mateo, Isabela, where he filled up the San Mateo Community Center. Darren said he didn’t expect that his simple visit to his family and relatives would turn into a mini concert. The entire municipality prepared a program just for him. He serenaded his eager fans with his own renditions of the songs Ngayon by Basil Valdez, Listen by Beyonce, and the popular Domino by Jessie J.
Next, he went to Tanauan, Leyte, during their Annual Fiesta Celebration last August 13, 2014. It was a free concert showcasing The Voice Kids Top 4. The crowd couldn’t stop cheering for him when he sang Ngayon and Domino.
Celebrities were also awed by his powerful voice. Darren was invited by “Asia’s Nightingale,” Lani Misalucha, to join her on her Philippine tour. Who would ever turn down such offer? First stop, the Queen City of the South, Cebu. It was on August 22, 2014 when DARRENatics from Central Visayas travelled to watch their idol. The Voice Kids album were also sold at the concert venue, Waterfront Hotel and Casino. He sang “One Moment in Time” and “Somebody to Love” during the concert. Additional treat was when he sang “Love on Top” with Lani Misalucha and Lyca Gairanod.
After Cebu, Darren headed to the South of the Philippines for an Album Promo Tour with the rest of the TVK Top 4 in KCC Mall of Gensan Convention Center. Darren belted out “Listen,” Somebody to Love,” Ngayon, and Domino which turned the crowd crazy, last August23, 2014.
The following day, Darren and the rest of the Voice Kids Top 4 visited the neighboring City of Koronadal for the Concert which was made possible by KCC Mall of Marbel on August 24, 3014. Darren showcased his ability to lure the audience and to keep the performance leveled-up.
The Davao tour of Lani Misalucha on August 29, 2014 at the SMX Convention Center were also packed with DARRENatics. Same series of songs were appreciated by the Davaoeños. Lani Misalucha made Darren shine in her concert! His admiration for Darren was very evident based on how she introduced him to the crowd as “One of the CHAMPIONS in The Voice Kids 2014….”
They headed back to Luzon to catch another performance on the 30th of August, 2014 at the Robinsons Mall in Lipa, Batangas. Darren together with Edray and Darlene got the TVK Album sold out that day. The overwhelming reaction of his fans echoed all over the mall. His songs Ngayon and Domino garnered the loudest shriek.
On Septmeber 6, 2014 , Darren went to another provincial tour, this time in Los Baños, Laguna. He promoted the album together with JK and Darlene. Robinson’s Town Mall was swarmed with DARRENatics from Laguna and nearby places. The crowd couldn’t stop screaming and shouting out Darren’s name.
You can see that Darren’s passion in singing was top-notch as he is always willing to visit one place to another. That’s why last September 7, 2014, together with Edray, Lyca, and JK, they visited The District at Imus, Cavite for the TVK Album Promo Tour. This was by far the most creative pack of DARRENatics. They prepared banners, pompoms, balloons, and dressed up in green, Darren’s favorite color.
The two-week preparation of the DARRENatics in Iloilo was all worthwhile when Darren’s Mall Show in Robinsons Iloilo was a success. September 16, 2014 also happened to be Iloilo’s Green Day, becoming a double celebration for the DARRENatics. The mall was literally overflowing with wild fans shouting from the top of their lungs. It was so loud that people can no longer hear Darren’s voice. Darren was with Tonton and Edray to promote their Album. The show started at 6 PM and lasted until forever in the hearts of the Ilonggos.
September 18, 2014 was Malolos Bulacan’s Beat Eat Concert for a Cause and First Bulacan Food Truck Exposition. It was more exciting with the presence of the Total Performer. He kept the crowd in high spirits with his enticing voice. Malolos Sports and Convention Center was drowned by the fan’s clamor for Darren.
Even the weather couldn’t stop Darren and the DARRENatics. On September 19, 2014, he visited Davao for the second time during the the Kanegosyo Congress at NCCC Mall Davao. Their flights were delayed due to uncontrolled weather conditions but as the saying goes, “The show must go on.” And it did, the fans waited for him patiently and at the end, the show was fruitful and worth the wait.
At a young age, Darren has displayed professionalism. Despite not feeling well, he managed to give an all-out performance for his supporters on September 20, 2014 when he was invited at the Sunstar Mall in Laguna. His dance moves gave an exciting jolt to his fans. Now who would think he is sick?
From Laguna going South to Naga, everyone was thrilled to see Darren at Robinsons’ Supermarket Kid’s fair last September 21, 2014. The Nagaland Emall Activity Area was filled. The 4-story venue was flooded with DARRENatics. Some write-ups said a stampede was eminent because of the non-stop fan invasion. The management saw it fit to cut the show short for security purposes. Nonetheless, Darren rocked Naga City!
Darren will continue to explore the rest of the Philippine archipelago. Comments, reports, photos, and footages taken from all provincial shows have manifested all over social media and have captivated many hearts.
In a short span of time and for a beginner, he has achieved so much. The influx of fans and supporters from all walks of life who went extra miles to watch his shows indicate how good of an artist Darren is. He’s just started and he’s not going to stop. On to conquering the Philippines!
